Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to visit the office every six months?
We highly recommend patients visit us at least two times each year. These six month checkups give us the opportunity to prevent many oral health issues and diagnose and treat others in the earliest stages.
Can I bring my kids to your office?
We treat patients of all ages, and are happy to schedule a block of appointments for your entire family on the same day. In rare cases, we may recommend children visit a pediatric specialist, but Dr. Shkurti and his team have years of experience working with young people.
What is TMJ?
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, but many patients use this acronym in reference to dysfunction of these joints. The small connective tissues attach the jaw to the skull and allow for fluid motion while talking, chewing, and smiling. Damage to these joints can be extremely painful and dramatically impact patients’ abilities to complete daily activities. We offer a number of treatments for TMJ dysfunction.
What are lasers used for?
There are a variety of dental uses for laser technology. We use lasers to complete soft tissue surgeries like scaling and root planing and to whiten teeth among other things.
Are there benefits to digital x-rays?
Digital x-rays offer higher definition images of the inner workings of patients’ smiles. This allows our team to diagnose oral health issues more accurately in earlier stages, which makes it possible for us to repair dental damage with the most conservative care options. Additionally, digital x-rays are easily stored and transferred, and expose patients to less radiation.
Do you see emergency patients?
We encourage patients to contact our office right away in case of dental emergency. We do our utmost to see patients on the same day that they contact us, and we walk each patient through first aid and pain management tips over the phone.
Do you take my insurance?
We are happy to process and file claims for most major dental insurance providers, and we are in-network for the majority of PPO plans. Don’t hesitate to contact our knowledgeable team with questions about your coverage.
